Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle asks that flags in Huntsville be flown at half-staff

HUNTSVILLE, AL (February 15, 2010) - Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle is asking Huntsville residents, schools and businesses to fly their flags at half-staff beginning on Monday, February 15th and continuing until 4:00pm on Friday, February 19th.

Late last week Mayor Battle issued the following statement on the tragedy on the UAHuntsville campus:

"It is a sad day for the City of Huntsville and the UAHuntsville family. This unfortunate tragedy reminds us how fragile life is. I've instructed my administration to provide any assistance needed to UAHuntsville President David Williams and his staff.

I also want to recognize the heroic efforts of our local law enforcement agencies and EMS providers for their quick response to this situation.

We share our thoughts and prayers with the families of the victims. May God bless them and comfort them in this time of grief."

City of Huntsville flags will be lowered immediately.
